Kamala Harris Campaign Raises $200M, Gains 170K Volunteers in a Week

Washington, D.C., The Gulf Observer: In a remarkable surge of support, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential election campaign has raised $200 million and signed up 170,000 new volunteers in the week since she officially announced her candidacy.

The significant boost in her campaign comes following U.S. President Joe Biden’s decision to end his re-election bid last Sunday and endorse Harris for the upcoming November election against Republican former President Donald Trump.

“In the week since we started, Kamala Harris has raised $200 million. 66 percent of that is from new donors. We have signed up 170,000 new volunteers,” Harris’ deputy campaign manager, Rob Flaherty, posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Harris has garnered support from the majority of delegates to the Democratic National Convention, virtually ensuring her nomination as the Democratic candidate for president next month.

The vice president, who is the first Black woman and Asian American to hold the office, secured her first $100 million within the initial 36 hours following Biden’s announcement, according to her office.

Harris’ candidacy has revitalized a campaign that had been struggling amid concerns within the Democratic Party regarding Biden’s viability against Trump and his capacity to govern effectively had he been re-elected. The official start of the 100-day countdown to the U.S. election commenced on Sunday, marking the final phase of a campaign already marked by an assassination attempt and Biden’s unexpected withdrawal.

Mitch Landrieu, a campaign co-chair, remarked on MSNBC that Harris “had one of the best weeks that we’ve seen in politics in the last 50 years.”

As the race intensifies, all eyes are on Harris as she prepares to take on Trump in what promises to be a highly contentious and closely watched election.
