Kazakh Peacekeepers Commence Mission in the Middle East

Damascus, The Gulf Observer: The military personnel of Kazakhstan have successfully arrived in Syria to embark on the first independent United Nations mission in the Middle East, according to media reports.
On March 15, a contingent of 139 servicemen, representing Kazakhstan’s Armed Forces, landed safely in Damascus aboard three C295 planes. Their arrival marks a historic milestone as they prepare to undertake peacekeeping duties in one of the most volatile regions in the world – the Golan Heights. This disputed territory, predominantly controlled by Israel, holds strategic significance, with a portion of its eastern area under Syria’s administration, covering approximately 600 square kilometers.
The Kazakh peacekeepers were greeted warmly by the local Syrian populace, who perceive their presence as a beacon of hope for restoring order and stability in the midst of escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Blessed with favorable weather conditions, characterized by invigorating coolness, the newcomers were welcomed by nature itself upon their arrival.
Following standard airport procedures and luggage loading, the Kazakh military personnel proceeded to the designated UN base. In the coming days, they are expected to receive equipment and weaponry dispatched to Damascus prior to their deployment.
The deployment of 430 peacekeepers, approved by the Kazakh Parliament during a joint meeting of Parliament chambers on January 19, underscores Kazakhstan’s commitment to contributing to global peace and security efforts. These peacekeepers will serve under the banner of Kazakhstan as part of various United Nations missions, including the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF, Syria-Israel), UN Truce Supervision Authority (UNTSO, Palestine-Israel), UN Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS, South Sudan), and United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA, Sudan).
The deployment of Kazakh peacekeepers to Syria represents a significant step towards promoting peace and stability in the region, while reaffirming Kazakhstan’s dedication to supporting international peacekeeping initiatives.
