Astana, The Gulf Observer: The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, has signed a landmark law designating Turkistan as a city with special status, recognizing its significance as a spiritual, historic, cultural, and tourist hub, as well as a key architectural heritage site of the country.

According to a statement from Akorda, the new law aims to enhance the management, conservation, and preservation of Turkistan’s historic and cultural monuments, ensuring the integrity of its heritage sites. It also prioritizes the planning and execution of archaeological and scientific-restoration projects, particularly at the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi and surrounding protected areas.

The law further focuses on the preservation, promotion, and revitalization of the city’s historic and cultural legacy, alongside the development of national craftsmanship. It also aims to ensure that scientific support is provided for decisions related to the protection and utilization of the city’s heritage sites.

A key aspect of the law includes the establishment of an archaeological monuments reserve within the city, further cementing Turkistan’s role as a center of historical and cultural significance.
