Kazakhstan Nears Release of Final Report on AZAL Embraer-190 Crash Pending Foreign Laboratory Analyses

Astana, The Gulf Observer: Kazakhstan is preparing to issue the final conclusions on the tragic crash of an AZAL Embraer-190 near Aktau, though officials have indicated that the report will only be published once two foreign laboratories complete their technical examinations, according to recent media reports.
Kazakh media, citing the Ministry of Transport, confirmed that the external analyses are an essential requirement in the final stage of the investigation. Authorities clarified that these examinations must be concluded before the findings can be formally released.
In accordance with ICAO regulations, the final report on an air accident must be issued within 12 months of the incident. With the December 2024 timeline approaching, officials are nearing the mandated deadline.
The Embraer-190 crashed near the port city of Aktau on December 25, 2024, carrying 67 passengers and crew. The accident claimed 38 lives, including six Kazakh nationals.
In addition to the significant loss of life, the tragedy triggered diplomatic tensions between Azerbaijan and Russia after reports emerged that the aircraft had suffered damage while transiting Russian airspace. These concerns remain under review as part of the ongoing investigation.
Kazakhstan’s authorities have assured that the final report will be comprehensive, transparent, and compliant with all international aviation safety standards.
