Kazakhstan PM Urges Vaccination Surge Amid Unprecedented Measles Cases

Astana, The Gulf Observer: Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister, Alikhan Smailov, has directed the government to address the escalating epidemiological situation in the country, particularly the surge in measles cases. During a recent government meeting, Prime Minister Smailov acknowledged the unprecedented rise in measles incidents, with children under 14 constituting 80% of cases.

Expressing concern about parents reluctant to vaccinate their children, he emphasized the critical need for vaccination to mitigate the situation.

The government has acquired an additional 1.5 million doses of vaccines for mass immunization, allocating over 3 billion tenge for this purpose. Despite these efforts, vaccination rates in certain regions remain low.

In response, the Healthcare Ministry and regional authorities have been tasked with intensifying measles vaccination campaigns to ensure public health and curb the spread of the disease.
