Kazakhstan Reiterates Firm Support for Creation of a Palestinian State within 1967 Borders

Astana, The Gulf Observer: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtleu, actively participated in the Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) focused on addressing the situation in Palestine, according to media reports.

The session convened foreign ministers from OIC member states, including representatives from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, Iran, Turkey, and Morocco. A primary focus of the meeting was to call for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and advocate for a swift resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Expressing deep concern about the prolonged humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, Deputy Prime Minister Nurtleu emphasized that the only viable solution is an early cessation of hostilities. In this context, he proposed utilizing the resources of the Islamic Organization for Food Security and the KazAID agency to deliver emergency humanitarian assistance to Gaza residents.

Kazakhstan urged intensified efforts to achieve peace, stability, and security for all residents of the region, particularly as the holy month of Ramadan approaches.

Deputy Prime Minister Nurtleu welcomed the multilateral mediation efforts led by Qatar and Egypt in negotiating a ceasefire and hostage exchange between Hamas and Israel. He commended Egypt’s crucial role in evacuating Kazakhstani citizens and their families from Gaza for subsequent repatriation.

Minister Nurtleu reiterated Kazakhstan’s steadfast position that the creation of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, based on the “two states for two peoples” formula approved by the UN, is the only sustainable solution to the decades-long conflict. The session showcased the solidarity of Muslim countries with the Palestinian people and their active commitment to taking immediate steps to end the conflict.

The Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers concluded with the adoption of a resolution outlining collective efforts and strategies to address the pressing issues in the region.
