Kazakhstan Rises to 24th Place in UN Global E-Government Development Ranking

Astana, The Gulf Observer: Kazakhstan has strengthened its position as a global leader in digital governance, climbing to 24th place in the latest UN E-Government Development Index (EGDI) ranking, as revealed by the 2024 UN E-Government Survey. This represents a significant leap of four positions compared to the previous report, marking one of the country’s best performances in the history of the rankings. The achievement was reported by NHC, citing a statement from Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry.

The UN survey, conducted every two years, evaluates 193 countries based on their progress in e-services, human capital, and telecommunications infrastructure. Kazakhstan’s strong showing reflects its commitment to digital transformation and the effective management of state governance. Zhaslan Madiev, Minister of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry, emphasized the significance of this achievement in a public statement.

“This is an important indicator reflecting our achievements in digitalization and effective state governance. The UN survey considers key aspects such as the development of e-services, human capital, and telecommunications infrastructure. This achievement is the result of collective efforts, and we continue to work to make our services accessible, secure, and innovative for every Kazakhstan citizen,” Minister Madiev said.

The 2024 report highlighted several key indicators of Kazakhstan’s performance:

  • Top Performer in the CIS Region: Kazakhstan remains the leader among Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, outperforming Russia (43rd), Armenia (48th), Uzbekistan (63rd), and Azerbaijan (74th).
  • Top 10 in Online Services: Kazakhstan ranked 10th in the Online Service Index (OSI), joining global frontrunners such as South Korea, Denmark, and Estonia. The country is also ahead of major economies like China, Germany, and Australia in this category.
  • Leader Among Landlocked Nations: Kazakhstan achieved first place among landlocked countries with an EGDI score of 0.9009, followed by Mongolia, Armenia, and Uzbekistan.

Kazakhstan’s ongoing digital transformation, driven by investments in cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT), has significantly enhanced governance and the delivery of public services. These advances have contributed to making government services more accessible and transparent for citizens.

As part of its national strategy for ICT development and digital literacy, Kazakhstan is poised to continue its upward trajectory in global digital governance, further cementing its reputation as a leader in e-government innovation.
