Kazakhstan to Hand Over CICA Chairmanship to Azerbaijan During COP29

Astana, The Gulf Observer: Kazakhstan is set to transfer the chairmanship of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) to Azerbaijan during COP29, scheduled to be held in Baku this November. The announcement was made by Kazakh Ambassador to Baku, Alim Bayel, at the Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan Agricultural Forum on Thursday, as reported by media.

Ambassador Bayel underscored the strong partnership between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, emphasizing their mutual commitment to peace and successful collaboration within international organizations. He noted that the transfer of the CICA chairmanship will take place during the COP29 conference, highlighting the strategic alignment between the two nations.

The Kazakh diplomat also praised the extensive cooperation between the two countries across various sectors, including economy, energy, tourism, and security. This cooperation reflects their shared dedication to fostering regional stability and development.

Azerbaijan was elected as the CICA chair for the 2024-2026 term by the CICA Council of Foreign Ministers on March 19, 2024. During its tenure, Azerbaijan is slated to host the CICA Council of Foreign Ministers in 2024 and the CICA Council of Heads of State and Government summit in 2026.

The CICA initiative, proposed by Kazakhstan on October 5, 1992, during the 47th session of the UN General Assembly, aims to create an effective and comprehensive organization to ensure security in Asia.
