Kazakhstani Students Achieve Success at Copernicus Mathematics Olympiad
New York, The Gulf Observer: Kazakhstani students achieved remarkable success at the Copernicus Mathematics Olympiad held at Columbia University in New York, securing a total of 29 medals, including two gold, 11 silver, and 16 bronze. The competition, which drew participants from over 50 countries, highlighted the prowess of the Kazakhstani team on an international stage.
Among the standout performers was Abylai Kalabai, a 4th-grade student from School No. 53 in Taraz, who won a silver medal. Kalabai expressed his enthusiasm for the high level of the Olympiad and his desire to participate in more international events to further promote his country.
Zhansaya Rakhmankulova, Kalabai’s mother, noted that this was her son’s first visit to the United States. An avid math enthusiast from a young age, Kalabai also has interests in chess, astronomy, and robotics. Rakhmankulova praised her son’s achievements, emphasizing his role in enhancing Kazakhstan’s global image.
Silver medalist Askar Almaktum from Taraz shared his excitement about the competition, which saw around 50 students representing Kazakhstan. Almaktum noted the Olympiad’s competitive nature and enjoyed the additional tours of New York and New Jersey offered as part of the program.
The Kazakhstani diplomatic missions in the US commended the efforts of the students, their teachers, and parents. The Consulate General of Kazakhstan in New York posted on Facebook: “We extend our deepest gratitude to the teachers and parents who have supported our students throughout this journey. Dear students, best wishes in your future endeavors as you continue to explore the fascinating world of science!”
