Kuwait Celebrates 65 Years of Independence and 35 Years of Liberation with Pride and National Unity

On this distinguished occasion, H.E. Ambassador Nassar Abdulrahman J. Almutairi joined the Kuwaiti people in celebrating these cherished national anniversaries, which reflect Kuwait’s rich history, notable achievements, and enduring commitment to unity, progress, and stability.

Flag-Raising Ceremony Marks the Official Launch of Celebrations

National celebrations were formally inaugurated with a flag-raising ceremony held under the patronage of His Highness the Amir. The ceremony was attended by His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, President of the Supreme Judicial Council and Chief Justice of the Court of Cassation Dr. Adel Majed Bouresli, alongside senior state officials and dignitaries.
Upon the arrival of His Highness the Amir’s motorcade, a 21-gun salute was fired in his honor. His Highness was received by members of the armed forces, police, and the National Guard. The national flag was hoisted, the national anthem was played, and the military band presented a ceremonial performance that reflected the solemnity and pride of the occasion.
Similar flag-raising ceremonies are taking place across Kuwait’s six governorates, accompanied by a vibrant festive atmosphere and a wide array of cultural, national, and community events. Although Kuwait attained full independence from Britain on June 19, 1961, National Day celebrations were later moved to February 25 due to extreme summer temperatures that limited public participation. In 1963, the date was officially designated to coincide with the accession of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah in 1950. Revered as the architect of modern Kuwait, he successfully negotiated the termination of the 1899 protectorate agreement and laid the foundations of constitutional governance that continue to shape the nation today.
