Louvre Museum Temporarily Closed After Armed Robbery Incident in Paris

Paris, The Gulf Observer: France’s Culture Minister Rachida Dati announced that the world-renowned Louvre Museum in Paris was closed on Saturday following a break-in incident involving armed robbers.

According to media reports, the intruders broke into the museum early in the morning and escaped with a collection of jewellery, the total value of which is still being assessed.

A police source stated that an unidentified number of thieves arrived on a scooter, equipped with small chainsaws, and used a service lift to access their targeted area inside the museum.

“A hold-up took place this morning at the opening of the Louvre Museum,” Minister Dati wrote on X, using a term in French that can also mean “robbery.” She confirmed that no injuries had been reported and added, “I’m on site with museum staff and police.”

A member of the minister’s team confirmed that at least one person had managed to enter the museum premises during the incident.

In an official statement, the Louvre announced its closure “for exceptional reasons,” as police and museum authorities continued their investigation.

The museum, one of the most visited cultural landmarks in the world, has not yet issued an official comment on the robbery.
