Malaysia and Pakistan Call for Concrete Global Action to End Gaza Conflict

Putrajaya, The Gulf Observer: Malaysia and Pakistan have jointly urged the international community to take decisive and concrete measures to end the ongoing war in Gaza, which has continued since October 2023.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday, Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said both nations are united in their call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the restoration of humanitarian access to Gaza.

“I am, of course, extremely appreciative of your stance. We jointly said that these exhortations and declarations, without some concrete proposal, are not enough to end the misery of millions of people in Gaza and Palestine. So, we jointly look favourably at the 20-point peace initiative by (US President Donald) Trump,” Anwar stated.

While acknowledging certain reservations, Anwar noted that Malaysia appreciates the aspects of the proposed initiative that emphasize the cessation of hostilities against Palestinians.

“Stop the bombings by the Zionist regime in Gaza. That, at least, is a clear position taken by most countries in the world now. With the support and commitment by the United States, God willing, we will achieve peace,” he added.

Anwar stressed that ensuring humanitarian aid access to Gaza remains critical, describing the continued suffering of civilians as “totally insane.”

“As you said, Prime Minister Shehbaz, in 2025 you can still find people, women and babies being bombed and killed. This is just totally insane,” he remarked.

Anwar further said that Malaysia and Pakistan share a joint position on the US peace proposal, underscoring their readiness to engage constructively in efforts aimed at achieving a durable peace in the Middle East.

In addition, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to promoting dialogue and stability in the Pakistan–India subcontinent, highlighting the importance of peace and cooperation for regional prosperity and joint efforts in counter-terrorism initiatives.

Prime Minister Anwar also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz for conferring an honorary doctorate upon him and for translating the Malaysian “Madani” concept into Urdu, describing the gesture as a significant step toward strengthening cultural and intellectual exchanges between the two nations.

He noted that the Urdu translation of Malaysia’s “Madani” vision mirrors earlier Malaysian efforts to translate the works of Pakistan’s renowned philosopher and poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal, including Asrar-e-Khudi, Javid Namah, and The Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam.
