Malaysia-China Mutual Visa Exemption Agreement Comes into Effect on July 17

Malaysia-China

Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: Malaysian citizens will now enjoy visa-free entry into China for short-term visits of up to 90 days within any 180-day period, beginning Thursday, July 17, under the newly-implemented China-Malaysia Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia confirmed that, effective immediately, holders of ordinary Malaysian and Chinese passports may enter, exit, or transit through each other’s countries without requiring a visa, provided each individual stay does not exceed 30 days.

The visa exemption applies to a wide range of purposes including tourism, family visits, business travel, cultural exchanges, private affairs, medical treatment, and travel as crew members. However, the total cumulative stay must not surpass 90 days within any 180-day period.

For stays longer than 30 days, or for activities such as employment, academic studies, media work, or any engagement requiring prior approval, the relevant visa must still be obtained before entry.

The visa-free arrangement is a result of agreements exchanged during the state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Malaysia in April, reflecting the deepening bilateral ties and commitment to enhanced people-to-people exchanges.
