Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: Malaysia’s strategic policy of engaging both the East and the West remains steadfast, as affirmed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Speaking at the 17th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention (WCEC) on Tuesday, Prime Minister Anwar underscored the importance of maintaining diplomatic and economic relations with global powers.

“We continue to engage with both the West and East. We welcome investments from the United States and Europe while acknowledging the dynamic geopolitical and economic growth of China,” said Anwar. He emphasized that this balanced approach aligns with Malaysia’s regional neighbours’ strategies, further strengthening the country’s global positioning.

Highlighting the robust ties between Malaysia and China, Prime Minister Anwar noted, “China has been Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years, with total trade amounting to nearly US$100 billion (RM436 billion). Stronger ties with China will not only benefit Malaysia but also contribute positively to regional stability and growth.”

The Prime Minister also referenced his recent working visit to Vladivostok, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The meeting reaffirmed Malaysia’s stance on engaging in discussions focused on trade and investment with Russia.

The 17th WCEC, taking place from September 9 to 11, brings together over 4,000 delegates, both local and international, to discuss economic opportunities and partnerships within the global Chinese business community.
