Malaysian PM Welcomes Israel-Hezbollah Ceasefire, Calls for Vigilance on Broader Conflicts
Putrajaya, The Gulf Observer: Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has described the recently announced ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon as a positive step towards de-escalating tensions in the region. Speaking at the Festival of Ideas (FOI) held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), Anwar emphasized the importance of the ceasefire in preventing further attacks and hostilities.
“The ceasefire appears to be a step in the right direction, but certain concerns raised by various parties must be closely monitored. The most critical aspect is the ceasefire itself, which will prevent further attacks or invasions,” the Prime Minister stated during a press conference.
The ceasefire, announced on November 27, was brokered by the United States and France and accepted by both Israel and Hezbollah. According to US President Joe Biden, the agreement stipulates that fighting along the Israel-Lebanon border will cease from 4 a.m. local time.
While acknowledging the significance of the ceasefire, Anwar highlighted the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and the West Bank, urging continued efforts towards peaceful resolutions. “Any initiative or effort towards achieving a peaceful resolution to these conflicts is highly welcome,” he remarked.
The Malaysian government is awaiting further details of the ceasefire agreement and will closely monitor its implementation, reaffirming its commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East.
This development comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with Malaysia consistently advocating for diplomatic solutions to address the root causes of conflict and promote lasting peace.
