Manahel Thabet Appointed Special Envoy for Science and Technology by Commonwealth Secretary-General
Riyadh, The Gulf Observer: Patricia Scotland, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations, has appointed Saudi Professor Manahel Thabet as her Special Envoy for Science and Technology, recognizing Thabet’s distinguished expertise and significant contributions to the scientific and technological domains.
The Commonwealth, representing 56 countries with a collective population exceeding 2.5 billion, is dedicated to fostering sustainable development, advanced technologies, coexistence, and peace, establishing itself as a prominent entity in political and scientific arenas.
Professor Thabet’s appointment is crucial in connecting member states to achieve sustainable development goals. Her role involves facilitating communication, knowledge and expertise exchange, directing scientific and technical research, adopting best practices, and leveraging technology to address environmental challenges.
Furthermore, she will actively contribute to enhancing economic cooperation, formulating policies, establishing legal frameworks to promote innovation, and conducting capacity building for scientists and professionals across member states.
Professor Thabet brings a wealth of experience to her new role, holding key positions such as advisor to the president of King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), president of the Economic Forum for Sustainable Development, and founder president of Consortium Consultants. She also serves as the deputy director of the Institute for Brain Chemistry and Human Nutrition at Imperial College, vice president of the World Intelligence Network (WIN), and vice-chancellor of the UK Gifted Academy.
Her appointment reinforces the Commonwealth’s commitment to leveraging science and technology for the collective benefit of its member states, promoting innovation, and advancing sustainable development on a global scale.
