Marcos Vows Stronger Protection for OFWs, Strengthened Ties with Japan

Manila, The Gulf Observer: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), particularly by ensuring “safe and humane” working conditions through strengthened bilateral cooperation with host countries.
Speaking before members of the Filipino community in Osaka, Japan on Saturday, President Marcos emphasized that the government is actively engaging with labor-receiving nations to develop bilateral labor agreements that uphold the dignity and rights of Filipino workers abroad.
“Masigasig din ang ating pakikipag-ugnayan sa iba’t ibang bansang tumatanggap ng ating manggagawa para makabuo ng bilateral labor agreement upang matiyak natin na ligtas at maka-tao ang trabaho at nabibigyan ng pagkakataong umunlad ang ating kababayan,” Marcos said, assuring smoother employment and deployment processes for OFWs.
The President noted that better opportunities are also being created for OFWs who wish to return home permanently. He highlighted ongoing government programs and services designed to protect and support Filipino workers abroad, whether they choose to remain overseas or reintegrate into the local economy.
“I recognize the weight of your sacrifice and the strength that it takes to provide for your families from afar. And that is why we will never tire of honoring you and finding ways to improve your lives. You are at the heart of our government’s efforts and you deserve not only our gratitude, but our full support,” Marcos said.
In his address, the President also acknowledged the role of the Filipino-Japanese youth in deepening the “dynamic and enduring” relationship between the Philippines and Japan. He called on the younger generation to embrace their Filipino identity and contribute to nation-building, both at home and within the Filipino diaspora.
“Through you, we continue to write new pages in the history of the relations between our two countries. Through you, the spirit of friendship with our Japanese friends continues to thrive,” he added.
President Marcos is in Osaka for a working visit at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru. During his stay, he is scheduled to visit the Philippine Pavilion at the World Expo 2025 site and hold meetings with key Japanese tourism and business leaders to further enhance bilateral cooperation.
