Massive Wildfires in Southern France Claim One Life, Leave 11 Injured as Over 11,000 Hectares Burn

Carcassonne, The Gulf Observer: At least one person has lost their life and 11 others have been injured as devastating wildfires sweep across southern France, scorching more than 11,000 hectares of land between Carcassonne and Narbonne.
According to the Aude prefecture, the fires—described as “very active”—broke out on Tuesday afternoon near the village of Ribaute and rapidly spread through the surrounding countryside, fueled by extreme heat, dry conditions, and strong winds. At least 25 homes have been affected, and that number is expected to rise as damage assessments continue.
Among the injured are two individuals who have sustained severe burn injuries. Authorities have yet to release the identity of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin.
Over 1,500 firefighters have been mobilized to contain the fast-moving blaze, with operations ongoing under what officials describe as “unfavorable conditions.” Aerial firefighting reinforcements are expected to join the containment efforts by Wednesday morning.
The emergency has also prompted the evacuation of multiple homes and at least one campsite in the region. In addition, 100 police officers have been deployed to support ground operations and assist in evacuation and security measures.
Local authorities continue to monitor the evolving situation closely as temperatures remain high and fire risk persists across the region.
