Mine Clearance Operations Underway in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam District

Aghdam

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Mine clearance efforts are actively underway in the village of Khachindarband, located in the Aghdam district of Azerbaijan, according to Azerbaijani media reports citing Alakbar Alakbarov, a representative of the Special Risky Rescue Service under the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES).

Alakbarov confirmed that the Special Task Unit of the MES’s Special Risky Rescue Service has been deployed to assist in demining operations across the liberated territories following the conclusion of the Patriotic War. These efforts are being carried out in coordination with other national agencies engaged in clearing unexploded ordnance from formerly occupied regions.

“Personnel involved in the operation undergo the necessary training courses and receive official certification before being permitted to begin work,” Alakbarov stated. He also highlighted the crucial role of specialized canine teams in detecting hidden explosives. “Our demining efforts are supported by specially trained dogs and their handlers, who play a critical role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of the operations.”

The ongoing demining process is considered vital for restoring safe access to agricultural lands, rebuilding infrastructure, and facilitating the return of displaced populations to their native regions. Azerbaijani authorities continue to prioritize clearance operations as part of the broader post-conflict recovery and reconstruction agenda in the Karabakh region.
