The commemorative function coincided with the globally recognized Down Syndrome International Day, observed annually on March 21st, as mandated by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 149/66 of December 2011, aimed at raising awareness about Down syndrome.
Highlights of the ceremony included the unveiling of the School of Intellectual Education’s logo, symbolizing support and care for mentally disabled students as they progress in acquiring skills. Winning videos conveying messages of support for individuals with Down Syndrome were showcased, followed by an award ceremony where artist Alia Al Farsi honored the competition winners.
An exhibition showcasing the artistic talents of students with Down Syndrome was a focal point of the celebration, along with the presentation of the Banan Student Company, dedicated to printing students’ drawings on fabric. Additionally, the event featured the introduction of the “With Us, Your Lesson is More Enjoyable” initiative.
This initiative is tailored for students with mental disabilities and revolves around designing interactive electronic content. It follows a comprehensive process from analysis to production, creating interactive lessons centered on the student’s active engagement in the learning process.
The Ministry of Education’s observance of Down Syndrome International Day underscores its commitment to promoting inclusivity, dispelling stereotypes, and fostering an environment where individuals with Down Syndrome and other disabilities are supported, empowered, and celebrated.
