Modi perform last rites of mother Heeraben
Gandhinagar, The Gulf Observer: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday performed the last rites of his mother Heeraben Modi in Gandhinagar. PM Modi, who had reached Gandhinagar early this morning, consigned the mortal remains of his mother Heeraben Modi to fire along with his brothers.
Heeraben Modi, 100, passed away at around 3:30 am today at the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre in Ahmedabad, according to a bulletin from the hospital.
She was hospitalised on Wednesday after her health deteriorated. PM Modi’s brother Somabhai Modi and other family members were also present at the residence of Heeraben Modi. Stay with TOI for all updates.
In the wake of the demise of his mother Heeraben Modi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will join Friday’s scheduled programmes in West Bengal via video conferencing.
This was announced through his official Twitter handle. The Prime Minister rushed to Ahmedabad early in the morning after his mother passed away at the U.N. Mehta Hospital where she had been admitted since Wednesday.
He was scheduled to visit West Bengal on Friday for a day-long visit. The programmes include the launch of key connectivity related projects and the meeting of the National Ganga Council.
“It is always special to be among the people of West Bengal. Tomorrow, 30th December is an important day for the growth trajectory of the state. Development works over Rs 7,800 crore would either be inaugurated or their foundation stones would be laid.” Modi had tweeted on Thursday.
Congress leaders condole demise of PM Modi’s mother
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi on Friday condoled the demise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother.
“The news of the demise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother Heeraba is very sad.In this difficult time, I express my deepest condolences and affection to him and his family members,” Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.
“Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Smt. Heeraben Modi. My heartfelt condolences to Sri @narendramodi ji on the loss of his beloved mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family in this hour of grief,” Kharge said on Twitter.
