Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: A delegation led by Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Mongolia, Bulgantuya Khurelbaatar, met with the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbaeva, on April 8, 2025. The meeting underscored the deepening bilateral relations between the two countries and their commitment to enhancing cooperation across various sectors.
At the outset, Chairperson Narbaeva extended a warm welcome to the distinguished Mongolian delegation and expressed her appreciation for Mongolia’s active participation in the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). She noted that Mongolia’s involvement in the Assembly was a testament to the strong ties between the two nations.
Narbaeva highlighted the ongoing strengthening of the long-standing friendship between Mongolia and Uzbekistan, emphasizing the numerous social and economic developments that have contributed to the growth of their relations. She referred to the state visit of Mongolia’s President, Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh, to Uzbekistan in June of the previous year, which she described as a milestone in the history of bilateral cooperation. The visit, she added, marked the beginning of a new chapter in the relationship between the two nations.
The Chairperson also recalled her own courtesy call on President Khürelsükh during the state visit and reaffirmed her commitment to reinforcing the legal framework for bilateral relations, promoting reciprocal visits between the highest legislative bodies, and enhancing cooperation through knowledge exchange. She further highlighted the participation of a Mongolian delegation, led by S. Erdenebat, the Head of the Mongolia-Uzbekistan Parliamentary Group, as observers in the recent regular elections of the Oliy Majlis, held in October. Narbaeva expressed optimism that the active development of inter-parliamentary relations would foster further collaboration in various social and economic sectors.
Deputy Speaker Bulgantuya Khurelbaatar, in turn, expressed her pleasure at visiting Uzbekistan following significant developments in their bilateral relations, including President Khürelsükh’s state visit and the opening of the Mongolian Embassy in Tashkent. She extended her gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to the delegation and highlighted the successful parliamentary elections held in both Mongolia and Uzbekistan in the past year. Khurelbaatar also pointed out that recent constitutional amendments in Mongolia had resulted in the formation of a new Parliament, consisting of 126 members, including 32 women parliamentarians.
Congratulating Uzbekistan on its successful hosting of the 150th IPU Assembly in Tashkent, Khurelbaatar noted that Uzbekistan had become the first Central Asian country to host the prestigious event. She emphasized the productive discussions that took place during the Assembly, which reinforced the role of parliaments in regional and international cooperation and strengthened inter-parliamentary ties.
Khurelbaatar also discussed efforts to increase trade turnover between the two countries, particularly by enhancing cooperation in the agricultural sector. She mentioned her discussions with Uzbek officials from relevant ministries and agencies, underscoring the importance of strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation in key sectors with high economic potential.
Both sides reiterated their commitment to furthering bilateral ties and fostering regional partnerships, with a focus on leveraging economic opportunities in areas such as agriculture, trade, and inter-parliamentary relations.
