Rabat, The Gulf Observer: In preparation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and head of the local organizing committee, held a meeting on Tuesday, December 2, with African ambassadors accredited in Rabat.

The gathering took place at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora, one of Morocco’s premier facilities for football development. During the session, Lekjaa delivered a comprehensive briefing on the Kingdom’s preparations for hosting the continent’s flagship football tournament.

He emphasized that Morocco is approaching AFCON 2025 with a broad and inclusive vision inspired by the directives of King Mohammed VI, placing strong focus on advancing African unity, solidarity and cooperation. Lekjaa noted that the success of the tournament would represent not only a national accomplishment for Morocco but also a shared victory for Africa as a whole.

The ambassadors expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved so far, commending the high level of coordination among Moroccan institutions and the swift pace at which infrastructure and logistical arrangements are being finalized. They highlighted Morocco’s capacity to provide firm guarantees for the smooth organization of the event, citing the availability of modern stadiums, upgraded transportation networks and enhanced hospitality facilities ready to welcome participating teams and fans.

To strengthen collaboration, Lekjaa announced the establishment of a communication and coordination unit that will directly link the organizing committee with African diplomatic missions. This unit will facilitate better handling of logistical matters, including travel arrangements, accommodation, and other essential services required by delegations.

Morocco has made significant investments in sports infrastructure in recent years, with stadiums in Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Agadir, Marrakech and Fez selected to host matches during the tournament. The country has previously hosted major international competitions, including the FIFA Club World Cup and the African Nations Championship, reinforcing its reputation as a dependable and experienced organizer.

AFCON 2025, scheduled to take place from December 21 to January 18, will mark the first time since 1988 that Morocco hosts the tournament. The event is expected to draw millions of viewers across the continent and beyond, while contributing to tourism growth and showcasing Morocco’s position as a central hub for African football.

Concluding the meeting, Lekjaa reiterated Morocco’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the success of AFCON 2025, stressing that the tournament belongs to all Africans and will reflect the collective aspirations of the continent.
