Myanmar Foodstuff Development Forum 2025 Inaugurated in Nay Pyi Taw

Yangon, The Gulf Observer: The Myanmar Foodstuff Development Forum (2025) was officially inaugurated yesterday at the Myanmar International Convention Centre II in Nay Pyi Taw. The event commenced with an address by the Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
In his speech, the Senior General highlighted the significance of micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Myanmar’s industrial landscape, revealing that 9,984 out of 49,025 industries nationwide are engaged in food production. He emphasized that the forum aims to foster a better economic environment for the foodstuff industry, promote the production of high-quality and safe food products, ensure local food security, and support import substitution while expanding into international markets.
The Senior General underscored that Myanmar’s economic progress is assessed through Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which is measured based on the agriculture, industrial, and service sectors. He recounted the formation of key commissions—Industrial Development Commission, Electricity and Energy Development Commission, and Agriculture and Livestock Development Commission—to ensure balanced development across the nation’s economic sectors.
Addressing the role of MSMEs in national economic growth, the Senior General stated that 23,887 foodstuff industries have registered so far, representing 49.63% of private industries. Among these, 2,004 foodstuff industries are located within industrial zones. He stressed the importance of close collaboration between the government and private sector to enhance manufacturing and improve commodity flow.
The Senior General also highlighted the need for locally sourced raw materials in the production process. He noted that developing agriculture and livestock farming as sources of raw materials would help boost domestic production, reduce dependency on imports, and support the gradual expansion of export-oriented industries. He further emphasized the role of high-quality production and proper packaging in increasing market demand and supply.
Following his address, a video presentation on Myanmar’s foodstuff industry development was screened. U Aye Win, President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI), delivered remarks on the forum’s objectives. Later, UMFCCI President U Aye Win and Myanmar Foodstuff Producer and Exporter Association Chairman U Aung Shwe presented the forum’s emblem to the Senior General.
During the event, the Senior General toured exhibition booths showcasing domestically manufactured food products, engaging with exhibitors and providing guidance.
The opening ceremony was attended by SAC Joint Secretary General Ye Win Oo, council members, Union ministers, Union-level dignitaries, the Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman, senior Tatmadaw officers, deputy ministers, departmental heads, business leaders, and industry officials.
The Myanmar Foodstuff Development Forum 2025 will continue until 20 February, featuring sector-wise seminars focused on the sustainable development of Myanmar’s foodstuff industries.
