Myanmar’s National Disaster Management Committee Reviews Quake Response Efforts at Fourth Coordination Meeting

Yangon, The Gulf Observer: Myanmar’s National Disaster Management Committee convened its fourth coordination meeting yesterday at the Disaster Management Centre, under the joint leadership of its Vice-Chairs.
Union Minister for Home Affairs, Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, who also serves as the First Vice-Chair of the Committee, highlighted that resettlement and rehabilitation efforts in the earthquake-affected regions are progressing rapidly. He noted that concerned ministries are expediting the review and fulfillment of requests for container offices and housing units.
The Minister added that temporary shelters have already been built for government staff in the affected zones, who are now residing in them with relative comfort. He emphasized the need to continue constructing additional temporary shelters, and stressed the importance of carefully selecting sites that can adequately support access to water, electricity, and sanitation services.
Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win, serving as Second Vice-Chair of the Committee, also addressed the meeting. He provided updates on the allocation of container offices and houses, and elaborated on the broader rehabilitation process for both victims and staff impacted by the earthquake.
The meeting concluded with a detailed coordination session among relevant officials and stakeholders to ensure continued efficiency and effectiveness in the ongoing disaster response and recovery operations.
