New Orchid Species, Trichoglottis Najibii, Unveiled at FLOII Expo 2024

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: A newly discovered orchid species, Trichoglottis Najibii, was showcased at the Floriculture Indonesia International (FLOII) Expo 2024, held at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD in Tangerang, Banten. The rare orchid, native to the tropical rainforests of East Kalimantan, was discovered at an altitude of 300-500 meters above sea level and has unique features that set it apart from other species.

Trichoglottis Najibii is distinguished by its lateral lobes on the orchid’s labellum, which are attached to the column, and its 8-9 mm long curved cylindrical spurs. These unique characteristics make it a remarkable addition to Indonesia’s diverse orchid species.

Yuda R. Yudistira, one of the founders of the species, shared his excitement about the discovery. “We named it Trichoglottis Najibii to honor the discovery and hope to introduce it to the public through events like the FLOII Expo 2024,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

The FLOII Expo, held from December 5 to 8, 2024, not only showcased the beauty of Trichoglottis Najibii, but also highlighted the growth potential of Indonesia’s ornamental plant industry. According to Project Manager Della Azkia Surur, the exhibition offers more than just a display of beautiful plants. “The FLOII Expo provides a platform for ornamental plant enthusiasts to explore new business opportunities within Indonesia’s flourishing floriculture sector,” she said.

In addition to the star attraction of Trichoglottis Najibii, the expo featured a variety of other ornamental plants such as Monstera, Sansevieria, Aglaonema, as well as succulents and cacti. Visitors also had the chance to participate in a talk show discussing business opportunities in the floriculture industry and an eco-print workshop.

The event, supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and several large companies, is expected to drive positive growth in Indonesia’s floriculture industry, fostering collaboration among industry players and providing opportunities for expanding business networks.
