Novruz Fair Brings Festive Spirit Back to Aghdam After Decades

Novruz

Aghdam, The Gulf Observer: A vibrant Novruz fair has been launched in the city of Aghdam, marking a significant cultural milestone as residents celebrate the holiday in their native land for the first time in decades.

The event, held on March 17, has been organized by the Special Representative Office of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavand districts, in cooperation with the Restoration, Construction and Management Service, and with the support of the Karabakh Revival Fund.

Residents who have returned to Aghdam after years of displacement participated in the celebrations with a deep sense of pride and emotion, alongside officials and members of the local community.

The fair features a rich display of traditional Garabakh cuisine, including kata, a variety of sweets, and handmade crafts produced by local residents. The festive programme also includes musical performances, folk dances, and theatrical presentations reflecting the cultural traditions of Novruz. A traditional Novruz bonfire is scheduled to be lit in the evening as part of the celebrations.

The revival of such cultural events in Aghdam follows the outcome of the 2020 Patriotic War, which began on September 27 and resulted in the liberation of occupied territories. In line with the trilateral statement of November 10, Armenian armed forces withdrew from Aghdam on November 20, 2020.

After 32 years, Aghdam—often described as the heart of Garabagh—has regained its vitality, with residents now able to celebrate the arrival of spring in their homes once again.

The Novruz festivities in the city are set to continue until March 21, symbolizing renewal, resilience, and the restoration of cultural life in the region.
