Nusantara Development Crucial for Equitable Economic Growth in Indonesia

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: The Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) has reiterated the significance of advancing the development of the new capital city, Nusantara, as a pivotal step towards realizing equitable economic growth, a fundamental aspect of Indonesia’s Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision.

Speaking in Jakarta on Monday (March 18), OIKN Head Bambang Susantono underscored the integral role of the new capital in fostering an economic landscape conducive to balanced and inclusive development. “Our aim is to create a place that can serve as an economic generator that will pave the way for an equitable economy in order to achieve the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045,” remarked Susantono.

Highlighting the critical importance of equitable economic growth in Indonesia’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2045, Susantono emphasized the Nusantara Capital’s potential as a catalyst for driving more equitable development trajectories in the future.

The development plans for Nusantara, as outlined in the IKN Master Plan under Law No. 3 of 2022, are grounded in meticulous technical feasibility studies conducted during the 2018-2019 period. These studies identified the districts of Kutai Kartanegara and North Penajam Paser in East Kalimantan Province as the optimal location for Nusantara’s development.

Several geographical considerations informed the selection of East Kalimantan as the development site for Nusantara. Firstly, the province’s strategic central location within Indonesia, facing the Makassar Strait, positions it as a pivotal hub for national and regional shipping routes. Secondly, East Kalimantan boasts a robust infrastructure network, including airports, ports, toll roads, and utilities, facilitating seamless connectivity and accessibility.

Moreover, the proximity of the development site to burgeoning urban centers such as Balikpapan and Samarinda further enhances its economic potential. Additionally, the availability of ample land in a geographically stable area further bolsters East Kalimantan’s suitability for hosting the new capital.

By embarking on the development of Nusantara on Kalimantan Island, the government aims to decentralize economic activities from Java and stimulate regional growth, thereby fostering equitable development across Indonesia. The endeavor aligns with the nation’s aspirations for inclusive progress and lays the groundwork for a prosperous and resilient future for all Indonesians.
