Oana Țoiu: Meeting the Romanian Community in the UK Was the Most Emotional Moment of the London Visit

London, The Gulf Observer: Oana Țoiu expressed deep admiration for those who traveled for hours from all corners of the UK to attend the gathering. The Romanian community in the United Kingdom is vast and immensely valuable. Over 1.3 million Romanians have chosen to live and work in the UK, forming the largest community of European Union citizens in the country.
The community is also incredibly diverse: from experts shaping the future in the major financial centers of the City of London to individuals performing demanding physical work every day with remarkable dignity. For Oana Țoiu and her colleagues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, each of them represents an ambassador of Romania—citizens who deserve full support whenever they turn to Romania’s embassy or consulates for assistance.
For this reason, the visit in London began at the newly modernized headquarters of the Consulate General of Romania. It was not merely a courtesy call, but a working visit—especially considering that in 2025 alone, the office delivered nearly 63,000 consular services and managed more than 10,000 cases of consular assistance and protection. Hundreds of people cross its threshold daily, seeking solutions for documents, visas, or protection.
The consulate has evolved into a true community hub. The intention is not for it to function solely as an administrative institution issuing passports, but as a vibrant space hosting events organized by Romanian associations and entrepreneurs.
Oana Țoiu listened carefully to the concerns of those she met in London and took note of areas requiring improvement. Following discussions with all four Consuls General in the United Kingdom, plans are underway to expand the consular network to be closer to citizens. After the opening of the Consulate in Birmingham last October, the operationalization of the office in Belfast will follow.
She extended her gratitude to everyone who attended for their warmth, openness, and sincere dialogue.
