OIC Chief Denounces Israel for Violating Iran’s Sovereignty
Jeddah, The Gulf Observer: Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), has strongly condemned Israel’s assassination of former Palestinian Prime Minister and head of Hamas resistance movement’s politburo, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran last Wednesday. Taha described the act as a violation of Iran’s sovereignty.
In an extraordinary meeting of OIC foreign ministers held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Taha criticized Israel for its continued violations of international law through its actions in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. “Israel’s persistence in committing these crimes, while disregarding every international law and resolution, constitutes an infringement upon Iran’s sovereignty and national security, in flagrant violation of the principles of international law and the provisions of the United Nations Charter,” Taha stated.
The OIC chief urged the UN Security Council to take immediate action to hold Israel accountable and to compel it to respect international law, halting its aggression and attacks that threaten both regional and international peace and security.
The extraordinary OIC meeting was convened at the request of Iran to address Israel’s ongoing crimes against the Palestinian people and its breach of Iranian sovereignty with the assassination of Haniyeh in Tehran.
