Oman and Algeria to Strengthen Cooperation Across Key Sectors
Algiers, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria reaffirmed the depth of their historical ties and cultural and social bonds during the 8th session of the Omani-Algerian Joint Committee, convened in Algiers on Wednesday. The session was chaired by Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister of Oman, and Ahmed Attaf, Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad.
Both nations expressed a strong desire to elevate their relations to meet the aspirations and ambitions of their peoples. The leaders commended the political consultation and coordination between the two countries on regional and international issues of mutual interest and emphasized their intention to enhance cooperation with regional and international organizations to achieve common goals and support the interests of Arab and Islamic nations.
Progress in bilateral relations, under the guidance of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, was acknowledged. The leaders underscored directives from both heads of state to advance joint coordination and cooperation across various sectors, reflecting their peoples’ aspirations for progress and prosperity.
The Omani side praised Algeria’s role in promoting regional and international peace and stability, while the Algerian side lauded Oman’s efforts in establishing strong foundations for security and peace, citing the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and Oman’s historic positions on Arab and international issues.
Discussions included the latest regional and international developments and their impact on peace, security, and stability in the Arab region. Both sides stressed the importance of Arab unity and collective efforts to address regional and international challenges, particularly concerning the Palestinian cause. They condemned the crimes committed by Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people since October 7, 2023, and reaffirmed their support for the Palestinian right to establish an independent, sovereign state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The meeting welcomed the International Court of Justice’s order for Israel to cease its aggression against Rafah and praised the recognitions of the State of Palestine by Ireland, Spain, Norway, and Slovenia. They urged other nations to recognize the Palestinian state in line with international legitimacy and resolutions and called for political solutions to crises in Arab countries, rejecting all forms of foreign interference.
Algeria commended Oman’s constructive efforts in easing regional tensions and facilitating communication, while Oman praised Algeria’s work at the UN Security Council in defending Arab and Islamic issues, particularly the Palestinian cause.
The session highlighted the need to enhance bilateral cooperation in economic, commercial, investment, industrial, and tourism sectors. Both sides praised the outcomes of meetings between senior officials and welcomed the signing of memoranda of understanding and executive programs in various fields, such as judiciary, youth, sports, standardization, and national archives, which are expected to open new avenues for cooperation.
The two sides also valued the discussions held by representatives of major companies and businessmen from both countries during the 8th session of the Algerian-Omani Joint Committee, exploring investment opportunities in energy, renewable energy, petrochemicals, the pharmaceutical industry, and tourism.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two countries signed two memoranda of understanding in the fields of social development and the judiciary, along with three executive programs in youth, sports, standardization, and the national archives, marking a significant step towards realizing the aspirations of their peoples.
