Oman and Russia Mark 40 Years of Diplomatic Ties, Eye Stronger Strategic Partnership
Moscow, The Gulf Observer: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of the Sultanate of Oman expressed deep appreciation to President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation for the gracious invitation and the warm hospitality extended during his official State Visit to Moscow.
In remarks following their high-level discussions, His Majesty underscored the significance of the visit, which coincides with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Oman and Russia. He stated that both sides are working diligently to elevate bilateral ties into a distinguished, strategic, and mutually beneficial partnership that serves the interests of their peoples.
His Majesty Sultan Haitham praised the constructive nature of his discussions with President Putin, noting their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation across all sectors. He also highlighted his meeting with a group of Russian business leaders, lauding their enthusiasm in expanding relations in energy, agriculture, and trade. His Majesty emphasized that several Omani and Russian entities have already begun exchanging visits and establishing commercial offices as part of broader efforts to deepen economic engagement.
The Sultan further expressed Oman’s ambition to increase investment in Russia, citing the active role played by the Oman Investment Authority, which is currently engaging with relevant Russian counterparts.
Concluding his remarks, His Majesty extended his gratitude to Russian officials who have visited Oman in recent months and expressed his hope that high-level Omani delegations will continue their reciprocal visits to Moscow, reinforcing bilateral cooperation.
In response, President Vladimir Putin warmly welcomed His Majesty Sultan Haitham to the Russian capital and expressed his appreciation for the Sultan’s state visit. He recalled His Majesty’s earlier visit to Moscow in 1985, during which the agreement establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries was signed.
President Putin highlighted the historic strength and continuity of Oman-Russia relations and welcomed the recent finalization of several bilateral agreements aimed at reinforcing the legal framework for cooperation. He noted the significant potential for further growth in mutual investments, trade, transit, transportation, and agriculture, with Russia continuing to export food and agricultural products to Oman.
The Russian President emphasized the growing interest of Russian companies in expanding energy cooperation with Oman, as well as the concrete and practical discussions held during the visit.
President Putin also underlined the ongoing coordination between the foreign ministries of both nations and announced that Russia is preparing to host the first Russian-Arab Summit, a gathering he said is supported broadly by Arab partners, including Oman.
The visit reaffirmed the deep-rooted friendship between the Sultanate of Oman and the Russian Federation and paved the way for a new phase of dynamic cooperation based on shared interests and mutual respect.
