Oman Calls for Immediate Ceasefire and Justice at Extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh

Riyadh, The Gulf Observer: Representing the Sultanate of Oman at the extraordinary joint Arab-Islamic summit held in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, conveyed His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s greetings to the attending monarchs, country leaders, and heads of delegations. The summit, attended by high-ranking leaders and officials, was convened to address the escalating humanitarian crises in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

In his address, Sayyid Badr highlighted the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and Lebanon due to ongoing Israeli aggression. He described the dire situation marked by relentless bombardment, destruction, and the tragic loss of lives, stating that residential areas, health and educational facilities, and key infrastructure have suffered devastating damage. Such actions, Sayyid Badr noted, violate all standards of humanity and demand an urgent international response to facilitate unrestricted relief aid deliveries.

Oman’s Foreign Minister reaffirmed the Sultanate’s unwavering stance on calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the cessation of Israeli operations in Lebanon. He emphasized the need for an independent international investigation into these repeated violations, asserting that justice and accountability are essential to ending the suffering and achieving peace in the region.

Sayyid Badr expressed concern over the dangerous escalation of violence, which has ramifications across the Middle East, posing a threat to regional stability. He called for a comprehensive approach based on justice and truth to resolve the situation.

Further, the minister reiterated Oman’s steadfast support for Saudi Arabia’s initiative to form an international coalition aimed at achieving a Two-State Solution. He underscored the importance of concrete international recognition of a Palestinian State as the first step towards long-term peace and stability. Commending nations that have already recognized Palestine, he urged others to follow suit.

In closing, Sayyid Badr emphasized the necessity of a unified will and tangible actions to ensure justice for the Palestinian cause. He prayed for divine guidance and success for all efforts and initiatives that seek to establish peace and support justice in the region.

The Omani delegation included HH Sayyid Faisal bin Turki Al Said, Oman’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and its Permanent Representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Abdullah bin Nasser Al Rahbi, Oman’s Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, and Sheikh Faisal bin Omar Al Marhoon, Head of the Arab Department at the Foreign Ministry, among other officials.
