Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry Explores Future Fund Oman's Investment Role

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: In its third Ramadan Evening, the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) delved into the significant role played by the Future Fund Oman as a dependable investment partner, shedding light on its mission, objectives, and operational mechanisms.

During the event, discussions centered on the diverse types of partnerships between the public and private sectors facilitated by the fund, as well as its pivotal role in financing small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Rashid bin Sultan Al Hashmi, Senior Manager of Investments at Future Fund Oman, presented a comprehensive overview titled “Future Fund Oman: A Reliable Investment Partner.” Al Hashmi outlined the fund’s objectives, which include stimulating economic growth, empowering the private sector, supporting SMEs, and promoting investment, among other strategic priorities.

The presentation also underscored the fund’s collaboration with government-funded projects aimed at expanding financing options for private sector entities, SMEs, businessmen, and foreign investors. It highlighted key sectors prioritized for economic diversification in alignment with Oman Vision 2040, such as tourism, industry, green energy, information technology, mining, agriculture, fisheries, ports, and logistics.

With a capital amounting to OMR 2 billion, the Future Fund Oman is poised to provide annual financing of OMR 400 million from 2024 to 2028.

Dr. Yousef bin Hamad Al Balushi, founder of Smart Investment Gateway (SIG), presented a comprehensive analysis of the economic development trajectory from 1970 to 2020, emphasizing the transformative changes in the economic structure and the instrumental role of the Future Fund Oman.

Qais bin Rashid Al Tobi, General Supervisor of the Omani Promising Emerging Companies Program at the Authority of SMEs Development, outlined the authority’s objectives in line with Oman Vision 2040.

The event also facilitated discussions on the operational mechanisms of the Future Fund Oman, highlighting various forms of partnerships between the public and private sectors facilitated by the fund as a crucial component of the Oman Investment Authority’s portfolio.
