Oman, Egypt Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties and Regional Developments

Cairo, The Gulf Observer: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman, met on Wednesday in Cairo with Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The meeting was held within the framework of regular consultations and ongoing coordination between the two countries, with the aim of enhancing bilateral relations and exchanging views on regional issues of mutual concern.

During the talks, the two ministers reviewed existing areas of cooperation and joint work programmes across various fields, while exploring further opportunities for economic and investment partnerships to promote mutual benefits and shared interests.

On political matters, the ministers affirmed the convergence of their views and the complementarity of their efforts to support security and stability in the region. They stressed the importance of adhering to international law, upholding wisdom and justice, and utilising all available peaceful means to achieve reconciliation among all parties, in line with the supreme interests, sovereignty and national security of states.

Both sides reiterated their firm support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to freedom and self-determination, and for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 4 June 1967 borders. They also underscored the need to lift the blockade on the Gaza Strip and other occupied Palestinian territories in the West Bank and Jerusalem, and to allow the immediate entry of humanitarian and relief assistance to facilitate reconstruction and restore a dignified life for the Palestinian people.

Regarding developments in the Republic of Yemen, the ministers expressed support for the Yemeni-Yemeni dialogue hosted in Riyadh aimed at reaching a consensual settlement on the issue of southern Yemen. They emphasised the need for a comprehensive and sustainable political solution that preserves Yemen’s sovereignty, unity and stability, and meets the aspirations of its people for security and prosperity.

The talks also covered the latest developments in the Republic of Sudan, with both sides stressing the importance of supporting national institutions, halting fighting and escalation, protecting civilians, and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid through United Nations agencies and specialised civil society organisations. They expressed support for efforts to reach a consensual political solution that safeguards the rights and legitimate choices of the Sudanese people while maintaining the country’s sovereignty and stability.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two ministers expressed their pride in the deep-rooted historical and fraternal relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Arab Republic of Egypt. They reaffirmed their commitment to continued constructive coordination, consultation and cooperation in line with the directives of the leaderships of both countries, in order to serve common interests and strengthen regional security.
