Oman Mourns the Loss of Former Cultural Adviser Abdul Aziz bin Mohammed Al Rawas
Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman has lost a prominent figure with the passing of His Excellency Abdul Aziz bin Mohammed Al Rawas, former adviser to the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said for Cultural Affairs. Al Rawas passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at the age of 79, after a distinguished career marked by significant contributions to the nation’s cultural and intellectual heritage.
Born in the Wilayat of Salalah in the Dhofar Governorate, Al Rawas was a graduate of Al Saidiya School in Salalah. He began his career in public service as the Minister of Information and Youth Affairs from 1979 to 1982. He then served as the Minister of Information from 1982 to 2001, playing a pivotal role in shaping Oman’s media landscape during a crucial period of the country’s development.
In 2001, Al Rawas was appointed as the Adviser for Cultural Affairs to the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, a position he held with distinction. His tenure extended into the reign of His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik, until his retirement in April 2020. Throughout his career, Al Rawas was known for his dedication to preserving and promoting Omani culture and for his intellectual contributions to the nation’s progress.
His passing marks the end of an era, and he will be remembered as a man of great wisdom and vision who dedicated his life to the service of his country. The nation mourns his loss, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
