Oman Participates in Extraordinary Session of Arab Economic and Social Council in Cairo

Cairo, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman participated on Monday in the ministerial meeting of the Arab Economic and Social Council’s extraordinary session, held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo.

The session forms part of the preparatory process for the Fifth Arab Development, Economic and Social Summit, which is scheduled to take place on May 17, 2025, in the Republic of Iraq. The summit will be held in conjunction with the 34th regular session of the Arab League Summit.

Oman’s delegation was led by Dr. Said Mohammed Al Saqri, Minister of Economy.

The meeting focused on advancing Arab economic integration, including discussions on completing the requirements for the establishment of the Greater Arab Free Trade Zone and the Arab Customs Union. Ministers also explored strategies to promote economic sustainability across the region.

Key agenda items included the revision of the Arab Water Security Strategy to address growing concerns over resource scarcity, and updates to the Arab Strategy for Manpower Development and Employment in light of accelerating economic and technological changes.

Participants also reviewed the Arab Vision 2045, a comprehensive roadmap aimed at guiding long-term development efforts and enhancing cooperation among Arab states to meet future challenges.
