Oman Participates in UNESCO Digital Learning Week, Showcases AI Integration in Education

Paris, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Education, is actively participating in the International Conference “UNESCO Digital Learning Week,” held from September 2 to 5, 2024, at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. This year’s conference is centered around the theme “Directing Technology in Education.”

Oman’s delegation to the conference is led by Majid Said Al Bahri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Administrative and Financial Affairs. UNESCO Digital Learning Week is a significant annual event dedicated to the advancement of digital learning and educational transformation. The conference brings together education leaders, digital education advocates, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners from United Nations agencies, governments, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector to foster collaboration and share insights.

The conference aims to promote the digital transformation of education while ensuring the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the educational process. Key objectives include leveraging AI in learning assessments, building educational systems that connect digital transformation with green initiatives, empowering students with AI awareness, guiding teachers in utilizing AI tools, and supporting students in acquiring AI competencies as part of digital citizenship education.

During the conference, the Omani delegation contributed a scientific paper that detailed the Ministry of Education’s experience in integrating artificial intelligence into school education. This presentation highlighted Oman’s commitment to advancing digital learning and showcased its innovative approaches in the field.

In addition to participating in the conference sessions, Majid Said Al Bahri met with the Assistant Director-General for Education at UNESCO and several education experts from the organization. These meetings focused on exploring avenues for enhancing joint cooperation between Oman and UNESCO, particularly in the realm of digital education.
