Oman Urges Impartial Global Commitment to Human Rights at UN Council Session in Geneva

Geneva, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman has reaffirmed its unwavering stance that international efforts in the field of human rights must be rooted in firm humanitarian principles, devoid of politicization and selectivity, and guided by respect for human dignity, justice, and accountability.
This call was made during the 59th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva by Ambassador Idris Abdulrahman Al Khanjari, Oman’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva.
In his address, Ambassador Al Khanjari underscored the urgent need for a unified international approach that places human rights at the center of collective efforts, describing it as a fundamental pillar for achieving global peace, security, and stability.
He expressed Oman’s concern over the declining commitment of some donor entities towards human rights issues, noting that such trends seriously hinder the ability of international organizations to effectively address growing humanitarian crises. He urged a reassessment of international funding priorities, calling for a redirection of resources toward initiatives with tangible impact, accompanied by improved transparency and efficiency in the management of humanitarian assistance.
Turning to the dire situation in Gaza, Ambassador Al Khanjari described the ongoing Israeli aggression as one of the most catastrophic humanitarian crises in modern history. He highlighted the grave violations of international humanitarian law that have resulted in the deaths of thousands of civilians—particularly women and children—as well as the widespread destruction of homes, healthcare centers, and educational facilities. The blockade, he said, has further intensified famine, disease outbreaks, and inhumane living conditions.
He called for urgent and decisive international action based on international law and the principles of justice, including efforts to halt violations, ensure accountability for perpetrators, protect civilians, and deliver unhindered humanitarian aid—free from double standards or political bias.
In a broader regional context, Oman also voiced deep concern over the escalating military tensions, particularly Israel’s recent attacks targeting the Islamic Republic of Iran. Ambassador Al Khanjari condemned these actions as flagrant violations of international law and the UN Charter, undermining state sovereignty and jeopardizing regional and international stability.
Reiterating Oman’s principled foreign policy, he emphasized the importance of diplomacy, dialogue, and mutual understanding as essential tools for resolving disputes and reinforcing global and regional security.
The Sultanate’s statement comes at a time when the international community faces intensifying challenges in upholding human rights amid rising conflicts and geopolitical tensions.
