Pakistan Declares National Day of Mourning to Honor Iranian President

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has declared a day of mourning in Pakistan in honor of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Prime Minister Sharif expressed his “deepest condolences and sympathies” to the Iranian nation over the untimely death of President Raisi. The fatal crash occurred on Sunday in a mountainous and forested area in northwestern Iran.

“Pakistan had the pleasure of hosting President Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian on a historic visit, less than a month ago. They were good friends of Pakistan,” Prime Minister Sharif stated.

As a mark of respect and solidarity, Pakistan will observe a day of mourning with the national flag flying at half-mast.

The tragic incident involved the helicopter carrying President Raisi and his entourage, which was found earlier today after an extensive search and rescue operation in the rugged Dizmar forest in East Azerbaijan Province.
