Pakistan Hosts Historic Direct US–Iran Engagements, PM Shehbaz Sharif Hails Diplomatic Milestone

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has described the recent high-level engagement between the United States and Iran in Islamabad as a historic diplomatic breakthrough, marking the first time in nearly five decades that delegations from both countries met directly at the highest level.
Addressing a special meeting of the federal cabinet, the Prime Minister noted that, over the past 47 years, interactions between the two nations had largely taken place through indirect channels. He expressed gratitude that both sides accepted Pakistan’s invitation to engage in direct dialogue in Islamabad.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his appreciation to Masoud Pezeshkian and Donald Trump for their willingness to participate in the talks, highlighting their positive response as a testament to Pakistan’s credibility as a responsible diplomatic actor.
He emphasized that Pakistan had been granted a rare and significant opportunity not only to host but also to mediate between the two sides and contribute to efforts aimed at establishing peace. Describing the moment as a matter of national pride, the Prime Minister said the honor reflects the dignity and aspirations of the country’s 240 million citizens.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace and dialogue, the Prime Minister underscored the country’s role in facilitating constructive engagement and promoting stability in the region through diplomacy and mutual understanding.
