Pakistan, Kazakhstan Reaffirm Commitment to Deepen Environmental Cooperation

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: A high-level meeting was held between the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Pakistan, H.E. Mr. Yerzhan Kistafin, and the Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, H.E. Dr. Musadik Malik, to advance bilateral collaboration in the field of environmental protection and climate action.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the outcomes of the recent state visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, H.E. Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to Islamabad on 3–4 February 2026. The two dignitaries expressed satisfaction over the signing of an interdepartmental Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of ecology, describing it as a significant step toward strengthening institutional linkages and promoting sustainable development initiatives between the two countries.
Minister Musadik Malik conveyed Pakistan’s keen interest in developing concrete, practice-oriented areas of cooperation aimed at addressing pressing environmental challenges, including climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and ecological resilience. He emphasized the importance of transforming bilateral understandings into actionable projects that deliver tangible environmental benefits.
The Minister also confirmed his participation in the upcoming Regional Environmental Summit scheduled to take place in Astana from 22–24 April this year, underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to constructive regional engagement on environmental issues.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to organize expert-level negotiations in the near future to coordinate joint measures and identify priority areas for enhanced cooperation.
The discussions reflect the growing momentum in Pakistan-Kazakhstan relations, particularly in the domain of environmental sustainability and climate governance, as both nations seek collaborative solutions to shared ecological challenges.
