Pakistan Reaffirms Support for Iran’s Right to Peaceful Nuclear Technology During President Pezeshkian’s Visit

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s principled position supporting Iran’s right to pursue nuclear technology for peaceful purposes under the United Nations Charter, during a joint press conference with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian in Islamabad on Sunday.
“Iran has every right to acquire nuclear power for peaceful purposes. Pakistan stands with Iran on its stance of pursuing nuclear energy for peaceful objectives,” Prime Minister Sharif stated, adding, “Everyone is a friend in good times; a true friend is the one who holds your hand in difficult times.”
The prime minister also strongly condemned the recent “unprovoked Israeli aggression against Iran,” describing it as “totally uncalled for” and affirming that the act was denounced “not only by the government but also by the people of Pakistan.”
Sharif and Pezeshkian expressed a shared resolve to eliminate terrorism, with the prime minister stating that “no form of this menace will be tolerated, neither on Pakistani soil nor in Iran.”
On the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Prime Minister Sharif called on the international community to unite in demanding an immediate ceasefire. He lauded Iran’s “unwavering support for the innocent Palestinian people, who continue to suffer under Israeli brutality,” and reiterated Pakistan’s firm solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
Drawing a parallel between Gaza and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Sharif emphasized that the Kashmiri people “continue to suffer Indian brutalities” and deserve their “inalienable right to self-determination.” He pledged that Pakistan would “always raise its voice for the Kashmiri people” and expressed gratitude to Iran for consistently supporting the Kashmiri right to freedom.
President Pezeshkian, in his remarks, thanked Pakistan for its support during the recent Israeli attack on Iran and recited poetry by Allama Iqbal, symbolizing unity and brotherhood. He described Pakistan as “not only a neighbour but a brother,” emphasizing Iran’s commitment to “serious and joint efforts” to deepen bilateral relations in all areas.
Highlighting the recent signing of multiple agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries, President Pezeshkian said they reflect the two nations’ shared intent to expand cooperation. He extended an invitation to Prime Minister Sharif to visit Tehran to continue bilateral consultations and assess the progress of joint initiatives.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to combating terrorism and enhancing border security to promote peace and regional development.
In a joint statement issued at the conclusion of the visit, Pakistan and Iran “strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression and genocide in Gaza,” called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, and urged greater unity among Muslim nations to address shared challenges.
