ISPR Confirms Brave Response to Ambush; Mourns the Loss of Sepoy Muhammad Tariq

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: In a tragic incident, a Pakistani peacekeeper, Sepoy Muhammad Tariq, lost his life during an ambush in the disputed area of Abyei, located between Sudan and South Sudan. The convoy, tasked with escorting two local patients to a hospital, came under attack, leading to a swift and effective response by the Pakistani peacekeepers.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that the Pakistani contingent, while responding to the ambush, successfully forced the militants to retreat. However, during the exchange of fire, Sepoy Muhammad Tariq, a resident of Badin, embraced martyrdom. Additionally, two officers and two other individuals sustained injuries in the incident.

ISPR highlighted the commitment of Pakistan’s peacekeeping contingents, emphasizing their professionalism and dedication to duty. The statement acknowledged that 181 Pakistani peacekeepers have sacrificed their lives while serving the cause of peace worldwide.

“Pakistan remains committed to its role as a responsible member of the international community and will continue to contribute towards global peace and stability under the auspices of the United Nations,” ISPR reiterated.

The Pakistani military mourns the loss of Sepoy Muhammad Tariq and honors his sacrifice in the pursuit of maintaining peace and security in the volatile region of Abyei.
