Palace to not intervene with the electoral organizer, says Indonesian VP
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Vice President Ma’ruf Amin emphasized that the Presidential Palace will not intervene with the electoral organizer in the registration of political parties participating in the 2024 General Elections.
“I believe this issue had been clarified by the President or the Palace, and there is no (intervention) at all. People often speculate that everything that happens is linked to the Palace, yet the Palace never intervenes,” Amin stated here, Thursday (January 12).
President Joko Widodo had clarified that the Palace did not meddle in the registration process of political parties seeking to participate in the 2024 elections, he said, adding that the entire election process comes under the authority of the General Elections Commission (KPU).
He added that the General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) is authorized to investigate violations of electoral regulations, including fraud in the election process.
In addition, Chief of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Moeldoko clarified that the Palace did not meddle in the registration process of political parties.
“The Palace had no interest in such matter,” Moeldoko emphasized.
The KSP chief stated that further confirmation was needed to respond to reports of electoral fraud involving election organizers.
Earlier, a representative of public coalition Kawal Pemilu Bersih (Rally for Clean Election), Hadar Nafis Gumay, said that his institution suspected fraud had occurred in the verification process of political parties registering for the 2024 elections.
At the hearing meeting with the House of Representatives’ (DPR RI’s) Commission II on Wednesday (January 11), Gumay claimed that he had conversational evidence showing the occurrence of the fraud.
Meanwhile, KPU Commissioner Mochammad Afifuddin, on December 19, also emphasized that no intervention occurred in the factual verification phase of the political party registration process for the 2024 General Elections.
“There is no (intervention) at all, and if it occurs as reported, we will investigate our officials,” Afifuddin stated.
