PIA Re-Launches Direct Lahore-Baku Flights to Enhance Regional Connectivity and Bilateral Cooperation

Lahore, The Gulf Observer: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the national flag carrier, officially resumed its direct flight operations between Lahore and Baku on Sunday, marking a significant step towards bolstering regional connectivity and strengthening bilateral ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
A formal inauguration ceremony was held at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport, where Pakistan’s Minister for Defence and Aviation, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The event was also attended by senior officials and representatives from the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Pakistan.
Under the re-launched service, PIA will operate direct flights twice a week—on Sundays and Wednesdays—between Lahore (LHE) and Baku (GYD). The initiative comes as part of PIA’s broader strategy to enhance its international footprint and support Pakistan’s foreign policy goals focused on deeper integration with Central Asia. Azerbaijan’s national carrier, AZAL, already operates flights to Pakistan’s major cities including Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Khawaja Asif highlighted the significance of this initiative in promoting tourism, trade, and cultural exchange. “This development marks a milestone in our commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Azerbaijan. The direct connectivity will facilitate easier access for travelers and businesses alike, opening new avenues for economic and people-to-people engagement,” he noted.
The re-launch of the Lahore-Baku route will not only allow Pakistani travelers to experience Baku’s historic landmarks, dynamic cityscape, and cultural richness, but will also offer Azerbaijani nationals a convenient link to explore Pakistan’s culturally vibrant and historically significant cities.
Officials emphasized that the direct air link is expected to further stimulate trade and investment between the two countries, while also serving as a gateway for enhanced cooperation with other Central Asian nations.
The new service aligns with Pakistan’s vision to become a key player in regional connectivity and to promote economic diplomacy. It is anticipated that the resumed flight route will contribute significantly to tourism development, business partnerships, and diplomatic engagement between Islamabad and Baku.
The launch underscores the growing importance of Azerbaijan as a strategic partner for Pakistan in the region, reinforcing both countries’ shared commitment to fostering closer ties in multiple sectors, including aviation, tourism, commerce, and cultural exchange.
