Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, at a meeting with Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Daren Tang in Hanoi on Thursday, urged the organisation to further assist Việtnam in enhancing investment efficiency in science and technology, commercialising research and development outcomes, and developing high-tech industrial, service, and urban zones.

The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for WIPO’s support as Việt Nam integrates into the global innovation and intellectual property system, stressing that such cooperation has inspired and motivated the nation to advance in science, technology, and innovation. He reaffirmed Việt Nam’s consistent stance on promoting international solidarity and multilateralism to address global and regional challenges.

PM Chính underscored Việt Nam’s development vision of rapid and sustainable growth, with the target of achieving double-digit GDP growth during 2026–2030 and realising its centennial goals by 2030 and 2045. He emphasised that the foundation for these ambitions lies in leveraging intellect, science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation, while building a green, digital, and knowledge-based economy.

Highlighting the strategic role of intellectual property, the Prime Minister noted that Việtnam aims to improve its Global Innovation Index ranking from the current 44th place to the top 40 by 2030, and the top 30 by 2045. He cited Politburo Resolution 57 on breakthroughs in science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation, which prioritises investment in modern infrastructure, training high-quality human resources, improving governance, and expanding international cooperation in related fields.

Calling for deeper WIPO support, PM Chính urged the establishment of mechanisms to make the Việtnam–WIPO partnership a model of effective cooperation. He also requested the organisation’s assistance in developing culture and entertainment industries, showcasing national heritage, nurturing youth creativity, and raising public awareness of science, technology, innovation, and intellectual property. The Prime Minister further highlighted the importance of joint efforts to tackle climate change.

For his part, WIPO Director General Daren Tang affirmed Việtnam’s position as a close and valued partner, commending the country’s strong political commitment and forward-looking approach to innovation, particularly the adoption of Resolution 57. He noted that innovation in Việtnam is flourishing not only in Hà Nội and Ho Chi Minh City but also across other localities, with standout startups and innovative enterprises.

Tang said Việt Nam stands out among emerging economies for its progress in science, technology, and human capacity building. He reaffirmed WIPO’s commitment to intensifying cooperation and expanding support activities for Việt Nam, expressing confidence that the country will continue to serve as a model of innovation for developing nations worldwide.
