PM Phạm Minh Chính Embarks on Commemorative ASEAN-Australia Special Summit and Official Visits to Australia and New Zealand
HÀ NỘI, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, accompanied by his spouse Lê Thị Bích Trân and a distinguished delegation, departed Hà Nội on the morning of March 4. The journey marks the beginning of the Prime Minister’s participation in the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Australia dialogue relations, followed by official visits to Australia and New Zealand scheduled from March 5–11.
This significant diplomatic mission comes at the gracious invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Prime Minister of New Zealand Christopher Luxon.
The ASEAN-Australia Special Summit holds historical importance, providing an opportune moment for both sides to reflect on their relations over the past five decades. Discussions will center on strategies to further the substantive and effective development of relations, aligning with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework established in 2021.
In conjunction with the commemorative summit, Prime Minister Chính will undertake official visits to Australia and New Zealand. This marks a significant milestone as it is Prime Minister Chính’s inaugural official visit to both countries since assuming his new position. Notably, this tour represents the Prime Minister’s first venture to Australia and New Zealand in over seven years.
The visit aims to fortify political trust, deepen multi-faceted cooperation, and bolster ties between Việt Nam and both Australia and New Zealand across various domains. These include politics, diplomacy, security, defense, economy, trade, investment, official development assistance (ODA), education, training, culture, tourism, and labor.
Prime Minister Chính’s diplomatic excursions to Australia and New Zealand align seamlessly with the foreign policy directives outlined in the 13th Party Congress, Conclusion 59-KL/TW of the Politburo, emphasizing Việt Nam’s commitment to active participation in ASEAN until 2030. Additionally, it reflects the implementation of Directive 25-CT/TW of the Secretariat, aimed at promoting and elevating multilateral diplomacy until 2030.
The government of Việt Nam anticipates that these visits will further enhance the nation’s standing on the global stage and reinforce its commitment to fostering strong regional partnerships.
