PM Shehbaz Sharif Congratulates Kazakhstan’s President on Successful Constitutional Referendum

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday congratulated Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the successful conduct of the historic constitutional referendum in Kazakhstan during a telephone conversation.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the prime minister noted that the strong voter turnout and overwhelming support for the new Constitution reflected the confidence and trust of the Kazakh people in President Tokayev’s visionary leadership and reform agenda.
He expressed confidence that the constitutional reforms would further strengthen governance, institutional stability, and national development in Kazakhstan.
Recalling President Tokayev’s recent visit to Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assured that Islamabad is actively following up on the decisions taken during the visit. He added that both sides would soon convene to finalize the proposed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and agreements.
During the conversation, President Tokayev reiterated his invitation to the prime minister to undertake an official visit to Kazakhstan later this year, which Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accepted.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional developments, particularly the situation in Afghanistan, and underscored the importance of promoting dialogue, cooperation, and regional connectivity for shared prosperity.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended warm greetings to President Tokayev and the people of Kazakhstan on the occasion of Eidul Fitr, conveying his best wishes for their continued peace, progress, and prosperity.
President Tokayev visited Pakistan last month, during which both countries signed more than 30 MoUs and agreements across multiple sectors, with the aim of increasing bilateral trade to $1 billion within a year. The agreements cover areas including climate change, virtual assets, veterinary services, artificial intelligence, and digital development, and are expected to support enhanced technical cooperation and digital partnership.
During the visit, President Asif Ali Zardari conferred Pakistan’s highest civilian award, the Nishan-e-Pakistan, on President Tokayev in recognition of his contributions to strengthening bilateral relations.
President Tokayev described Pakistan as a “reliable and important partner in South Asia and beyond,” highlighting that the two nations are connected by centuries-old ties rooted in the legacy of the Silk Road, as well as deep cultural and spiritual affinity.
