PM Shehbaz Sharif Hails Pakistan-China Strategic Partnership as Anchor of Regional Stability
Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday reaffirmed the significance of the all-weather strategic partnership between Pakistan and China, describing it as “an anchor of regional stability” and “a beacon of hope for global peace and prosperity.”
He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony at the Prime Minister’s House to unveil sculptures of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Chinese leader Mao Zedong, crafted by renowned Chinese artist Yuan Xikum. Mao Xiaoqing, the niece of Chairman Mao Zedong, graced the event with her presence.
The prime minister highlighted the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China, rooted in decades of shared values, mutual respect, trust, and cooperation.
“Our collaboration spans various fields, from the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to cultural exchanges, education, and defence production,” he remarked.
He emphasized that the partnership between the two nations has strengthened in challenging global circumstances, serving as a pillar of stability in the region.
Honoring Iconic Leaders
Shehbaz Sharif lauded the artistic work of Yuan Xikum, who he said had beautifully captured the essence of Quaid-e-Azam and Chairman Mao in his sculptures.
“This ceremony is special as it honors the vision and legacies of our founding fathers, who shared a commitment to independence, justice, equity, and self-respect for their nations,” the prime minister said.
He recalled his recent visit to China in June, where he toured the Terra Cotta Museum in Xian upon the recommendation of President Xi Jinping. Drawing parallels between the two nations, he noted that Pakistan’s heritage is deeply rooted in the Indus Valley Civilization, with historic sites like Mohenjo Daro and Harappa reflecting its glorious past.
Youth as a Bridge Between Nations
The prime minister emphasized the role of Pakistani students studying in China as a bridge of friendship between the two countries. He announced that the first batch of Pakistani agricultural graduates would soon visit China to acquire modern techniques and expertise aimed at boosting agricultural productivity.
Commemorating the Founders
Yuan Xikum, the sculptor, remarked that the greatness of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Chairman Mao Zedong inspired him to create the sculptures. The event coincided with the 148th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam on December 25 and the 131st anniversary of Chairman Mao.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar also praised the decades-long friendship between Pakistan and China, emphasizing that their bond continues to grow stronger with time.
The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including Special Assistant to the PM Tariq Fatemi, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi, among others.
